
Miss Matos has earned universal acclaim as a winner of an unprecedented 34 of the world’s most coveted vocal competitions—more than any other classical singer—including the Maria Callas International Competition (Greece), the Luciano Pavarotti International Competition, and the Licia Albanese–Puccini Foundation Competition.
She has appeared worldwide under the batons of Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, Jahja Ling, Neeme Järvi, Benjamin Loeb, Murry Sidlin, and Constantine Orbelian, and is featured in the film and PBS special Defiant Requiem with Maestro Sidlin.
Recent highlights
- Performed the mezzo-soprano solos in Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (April).
- Sang in Paolo Miccichè’s staging of The Last Judgment: Verdi’s Requiem in Yerevan, Armenia, conducted by Constantine Orbelian.
- Appeared in Verdi’s Requiem (Sardinia, Massimiliano Murrali) and in Beethoven’s Ah! perfido (Sofia, Bulgaria, and Lviv, Ukraine, both under Benjamin Loeb).
- Featured at the 3rd International Women in Music Festival (August) with pianist Rebecca Wilt in The Lost Art Songs of Luise Greger.
- Performed Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the New Symphony Orchestra in Sofia and with the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, both led by Benjamin Loeb.

Carmen (Carmen), Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust), Paulina (Pique Dame), Leonora (La Favorita), Amneris (Aida), Laura (La Gioconda), Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle), and La Principessa (Adriana Lecouvreur) with companies such as Lyric Opera of Chicago, Polish National Opera, Opera Festival of New Jersey, and Opera Orchestra of New York.

Rooted in her Greek-American heritage, she was honored to sing Verdi’s Requiem at the foot of the Acropolis during Greece’s week-long tribute to Maria Callas. Her debut recording of Haydn arias is available on the ERI label, and her rendition of Alice Parker’s arrangement of “Come Sunday” with the Tampa Bay Master Chorale and The Florida Orchestra is also on CD.
Miss Matos holds degrees from Millsaps College and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is an alumna of the Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago.
